MEET THE FOUNDER

TaNeel Filesteel

Founder TaNeel Filesteel, a proud citizen of the Aaniiih, Nakoda tribes from Fort Belknap Indian Reservation, and Apsaalooke tribe- Crow Reservation has dedicated her life to tribal sovereignty and self-determination. As the former Deputy Prosecutor for the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation, she has always fought to protect Indigenous rights. While pursuing education she became a mother; this is when she discovered another calling to make a product to keep her babies warm while honoring her culture.

That’s when Moss Bag Baby was born.

Drawing from her heritage and the skills passed down by the matriarchs in her family, TaNeel hand-sewed the first Modern Moss Bag, a sherpa-lined infant carrier cover inspired by the traditional moss bags used by Indigenous people for generations. Originally created to protect her own babies through Montana’s harsh winters, this newborn cover quickly gained attention for its functionality, warmth, and cultural significance.

Today, Moss Bag Baby is the first Native-owned baby brand offering handmade, high-quality infant carrier covers designed for babies 0 to 12 months. These covers aren’t just for Native families, they're for every parent who wants to keep their little one warm, secure, and stylish.

Each infant cover is thoughtfully designed to fit over any two strapped baby carriers, carseats and wraps, making them a versatile, must-have baby essential. More than just a product, the Modern Moss Bag is a celebration of heritage, craftsmanship, and the bond between parents and their children.

Join the Moss Bag Baby family and experience the perfect blend of tradition, warmth, and love handcrafted for your little one.
